59: Paul Vitale: Motivation Behind Your Message

+ Follow

In this episode host Jim Karrh welcomes motivational speaker, trainer, and author Paul Vitale to the Manage Your Message Podcast.

Over the course of two decades Paul has become one of America’s most sought-out motivational speakers and trainers. His clients have included ESPN, Walmart, the United States Postal Service, Southwest Airlines, the National Football League, three NFL teams, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. He is now President of Matt Birk and Company, working on team building, productivity, and sales growth—and before starting a full-time speaking and training career, Paul was director of the Convention and Visitors Bureau in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Jim speaks with Paul about several topics related to motivation, learning, and professional effectiveness, including:

  • How today’s high “noise levels” and distractions tend to drag down workers and managers
  • The benefits and limitations of positive self-talk, and how Paul’s background in marketing and promotion have informed his approach
  • How the basics of communication, gratitude, and collegiality (among a few other foundational concepts) still drive human behavior in a more digital world
  • The importance of simple takeaways from conferences, workshops, and retreats
  • Why managers and coaches need not be “rah-rah” people in order to build consistent performance from their teams
