49: Christine Moorman: What CMOs Think

+ Follow

What are the challenges, innovations, priorities, and predictions of chief marketing officers across the US? In this episode of The Manage Your Message Podcast host Jim Karrh talks with Prof. Christine Moorman about results from the latest edition of The CMO Survey.

Dr. Moorman is the T. Austin Finch, Sr. Professor of Marketing at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. She is also the Founder and Director of the CMO Survey, the longest-running survey dedicated to understanding the field of marketing. Marketing leaders look to the CMO Survey for an objective view into the minds of their peers.

Jim and Chris discussed several categories of results, including:

  • What’s happening with marketing budgets
  • What CMOs think (and worry) about when it comes to taking on political and social issues
  • Marketers’ attention to customer experience (CX)—and how they believe their own companies are underperforming
  • Investments in analytics, and whether marketers are seeing returns yet on those investments
  • The rise of automation, and what that will mean for marketing jobs and hiring
